Bio
Sabra Newby is an accomplished public policy and administration professional with extensive experience in government and community engagement. She currently serves as the deputy city manager of the city of Las Vegas, overseeing departments including Neighborhood Services, Youth Development and Social Initiatives and Government Affairs. In this capacity, she also serves on the board of and liaison to the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE.
Previously, Newby was the vice president of government and community engagement at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she played a key role in fostering partnerships between the university and the local community. Prior to joining UNLV, Newby was the city manager for Reno, Nevada, where she managed a $190 million budget and led various public policy initiatives, including the creation of the Reno Downtown Partnership and efforts to modernize city policies. Her tenure also included realigning city services to improve public engagement and restructuring bond debt for better fiscal stability.
Newby's career also includes significant roles in Clark County, Nevada, where she served as assistant county manager and chief administrative officer. She has been a leader in intergovernmental relations, affordable housing policy and strategic planning.
She holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude, from Wellesley College. She is an International Local Government Management Organization credentialed manager. Newby is also actively involved in professional associations and community organizations and served in the 2023 Nevada State Assembly representing District 10 in the heart of Las Vegas.
